<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - #1 - Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life by Wayne W. Dyer</image:title>
<image:caption>From first setting eyes on this foundational text at 18 years old, I’m yet to have read something that rivals its synchronicity with my being. This text was my first introduction to the Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu. It’s without a doubt the single greatest instruction of wisdom I’ve found to date. My first “spiritual” mentor (Paul) gave me the book when I was 18 years old and it took me 6 months to get through the first time; as some of the verses took a couple weeks at a time to process. I discuss how this book affected me more intensely in my Books of Wisdom Video series on the channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_ev4OJP538 I wake up each morning and see this book sitting on my desk, and I thank both Wayne and Lao Tzu for all that they were, and the work they did to bring this into the world of 10,000 things.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - The Diamond Sutra - The Buddha / Red Pine Interpretation</image:title>
<image:caption>My journey into the Diamond Sutra began in January 2019. It’s important to mention at this point that I’m not a “Buddhist”, I don’t identify with anything or anyone, I’m just here to cultivate. It’s April 4th, 2019, and as of writing this I just finished the Diamond Sutra last night. Much like the Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu, I got 3 pages in and realised this was not going to be a speed read. Sometimes allowing a week to go by just meditating on one lesson. I was challenged to reach a new level of self understanding through this book. In all honesty, I probably didn’t understand 50% of the micro concepts within, however, the greater lesson the Buddha was passing on through this Perfection of Wisdom came through crystal clear. I’ll take time to process the true teaching, in an internalised practice way. It feels like I’ve awoken to a new plane of existence, and I’ve just taken my first steps… so give me some time and I’ll get back to you with what I’ve found ;)</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - Book of Five Rings by Miyamoto Musashi (Bradford J. Brown Translation).</image:title>
<image:caption>I heard Joe Rogan mention this text many a time on his podcast, but it wasn’t until randomly meeting a powerful man named Erol on the street one day, during our convo he mentioned the book and I was sold. I took maybe a page of notes on it the first time, and walked away feeling like I had taken a sip of magic. The second time reading a year later, I took an essays worth of notes and felt like a kingdom of magic had been bestowed upon me. Musashi’s Heiho (way to get there) is the essence of this book’s wisdom, and I often spend afternoons walking in the sun, contemplating what Heiho I have chosen.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - Musashi - Eiji Yoshikawa</image:title>
<image:caption>Based on a true man’s life, a splendid exploration of what it truly means to be a warrior. I don’t believe I’ve ever written down more notes/quotes from a single text than this. I resonated deeply with Musashi’s journey from the dirt to the sky. If there were ever a text to paint the journey from boyhood to manhood psychology so perfectly… The lessons on love in a warrior’s life truly gave me pause. In fact, I had to spend many nights on the beach in solitude reflecting before picking the book up again, this is an absolute masterpiece of wisdom.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - Man's Search For Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl.</image:title>
<image:caption>While studying a Bachelor of Media majoring in Photography at Adelaide University, my social science Prof. Ghil’ad Zuckermann mentioned this text in our first tutorial together. He told us that this was a required reading for all of his students studying social science in the U.S. So I read it, and I never consciously wasted another piece of food again. Of course, my learning was much deeper than that, I never knew suffering could exist on this level, and to hear a 1st person account from someone who survived it, and more importantly how he survived, it was life-opening to say the least. I’ve gifted this book so many times I’ve lost count, and when I sense someone may not take to the “Zen” style of teaching, I’ll offer this in place of Lao Tzu’s Tao Te Ching, to get them started with.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle</image:title>
<image:caption>Anytime a client of mine is struggling with the concept of “Ego” I recommend this gem by Mr. Tolle. Back when I was 18, shortly after reading “The Alchemist”, my mentor Paul decided Mr. Tolle’s work was next in line for me. It took me some time to get through this book. I had no concept of “ego” before reading this, and I found my head getting twisted and bent on every page. I still look back on this work as being such a foundation to my journey of Self-Cultivation; particularly in Tolle’s description of the 3 ways to handle any situation in life.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho</image:title>
<image:caption>This was my very first introduction into the world of Self-Cultivation & was also the first text my spiritual mentor (Paul) gave to me at 18 years old. I read the book in a day and was changed forever. I had no concept of “Self-Cultivation at that time, but I knew this path was for me. I remember finishing the book, and feeling both blown away yet confused at Santiago’s realisation. Soon after this, I sat down with Paul and we discussed the core lesson of the story. I’ve since been enquiring into others’ minds as to how they interpreted the core as a whole. It never ceases to amaze me how someone’s interpretation can differ so greatly, yet, the feeling of inspiration is always the same.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - An Open Heart By The Dalai Lama</image:title>
<image:caption>As a whole, I didn’t think this book was too special, until I laid eyes upon a particular passage, which I committed to memory instantly, the book was then skyrocketed into the resources of wisdom list forever. I won’t say what passage it was, but I will say that it’s the reason why I could never commit suicide. If you read through, you’ll find the passage I’m referring to. I also embraced the Dalai Lama’s “analytical/profound” meditation practice and resonated with it greatly; I now use it during my evening meditations and find that it helps me to put in work on concepts that seemed so ephemeral during the day i.e. “We can only see as far as our minds will open.” - this meditation is one of many that I create nightly to work on, based on what I experienced that day. I share these meditations on my Instagram story @ooitang1</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - The Way of The Superior Man by David Deida</image:title>
<image:caption>I had never heard the concept of “Masculine & Feminine Energy” described in such a way as Mr. Deida nailed in this text. I first listened on audiobook. and then read in writing, and to this day it’s left a mark on me. I’ve since developed my own understanding of the play between masculine/feminine energy, along with my own principles in life, and this text was one of the catalysts to that process. In a world where masculine beings are becoming more lost and confused as to what it means to have masculine energy, this text offers a great guide back to the way.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - The Law of Success by Napoleon Hill</image:title>
<image:caption>This was the first book I ever received from a follower of The Bowl (shoutout to Niklas ;) - and was also the second text of Mr. Hill’s that my mind laid absorption to. This is what I refer to as “Napoleon’s real shit”. Napoleon’s more famous Think and Grow Rich is a great text, and impacted me greatly, but that was only the abbreviated version of his work. The Law of Success, despite being written in 1925, is the full blown course. The lessons passed down here have played such a major role in how I conduct my business, and my life in general. I’m not exaggerating when I say that there are genuine micro tactics I use on the daily that came straight from this text, read it and believe it.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - Dropping Ashes On The Buddha by Seung Sahn (Stephen Mitchell Translation)</image:title>
<image:caption>Since reading Wayne Dyer’s interpretation of The Tao Te Ching (Change your thoughts, change your life), I haven’t found many other zen/mindfulness texts that could rival the synchronicity I felt from the Tao. This text comes close. The repetitive conversational style of teachings almost did my head in, until I realised what Zen Master Seung Sahn was really saying, or not saying. Be forewarned, extreme patience is required when diving into this, and I would not recommend it as an introduction to Zen Philosophy, I would call this a “zen connoisseur’s delight”, for people who already have an understanding of core zen concepts. I say this primarily due to the fact that there is no interpretive commentary, unlike in Red Pine’s “Diamond Sutra” or Wayne Dyer’s “Change your thoughts, change your life” interpretations. In Dropping Ashes On The Buddha, you’re essentially flying solo.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie</image:title>
<image:caption>I can’t think of another book that has taught me more about 1 to 1 human relations. Another book of old world wisdom (published 1936), I was constantly stunned by how relevant the principles are in my day. Mr. Carnegie’s lessons around learning to listen are something of such power that they essentially altered my way of interacting with humans across the board.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - Start With Why by Simon Sineck</image:title>
<image:caption>When it comes to life trajectory, this text has been foundational in my plotting. I had never heard anyone describe the process of success like Simon did. My personal training manager at Goodlife Health Clubs first mentioned the “Golden Circle” concept to myself and 4 other beginning PT’s when I was 18. 2 years later, a manager of mine at the Apple store referred me to Simon’s TED talk, and since then I’ve integrated his concepts into my way of being. Foundational to say the least.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg</image:title>
<image:caption>Whenever someone reaches out to me re: changing, eradicating or installing new habits in their life, I immediately refer them to this book. Mr. Duhigg’s simple approach to rewiring behaviour has had such a powerful impact on my own life, I can’t imagine what I would be doing without it.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - Flow by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi</image:title>
<image:caption>I hadn’t really been exposed to any “in the weeds” psychology books prior to Flow, and man did this both blow, and open my mind. I frequently would wonder what was happening when I was training martial arts, making love, editing films, cooking new creations in the kitchen etc… Anything that I “lost myself” in, and this book explained it perfectly, not simply, but perfectly nonetheless. That’s the thing about intense psych books, you have to approach them differently to Self-help, you can’t speed read, and you have to treat it like it’s a person trying to explain a concept to you, not just the distillation of their thoughts. So, prepare yourself with ample bottles of patience juice before diving in on this, it’s a marathon, not a sprint.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - The Red Queen by Matt Ridley</image:title>
<image:caption>Forewarning, the first half of this book is PAINFUL. It almost felt like I was reading the wrong book. I had heard so many high reviews of it from respectable people, yet I found myself getting intensely frustrated with the 10,000km deep biology talk. Now listen, I’m all for bio talk, I love the science, but it has to be relevant! And at many points it just felt oh so painfully irrelevant. To be fair, Matt actually warns this at the beginning of the book, and instructs you to skip the first half if you’re not down for the science nitty gritty. I did however force myself to get through it, hoping I would be rewarded at the half way point, and I was. SO much so that it’s made my list of wisdom. The second half of this book holds one of the greatest accounts of where our human sexuality came from. I would even say that this read is more foundational than “Sex at Dawn”, as it feels like a meta-analysis of all the works out there. On a side note - I particularly loved the account of ancient emperor’s daily sexual regimes, straight fascinating.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - Sex At Dawn by Chris Ryan</image:title>
<image:caption>Prior to coming into this text, I had already been down the journey of repairing my social skillset, and learning the play of masculine to feminine energy. So experiencing open and free sexual relationships was not something new to me. I had already felt for a long time that serial monogamy did not suit who I was as a person, but when I did find my way to this text, it provided explanations from a evolutionary/science based perspective that only mirrored what I had already found out for myself. I don’t think this book is the “be all end all”, and neither does Ryan, I think it simply enlightens the mind to the possibilities of human sexuality that few are ready to acknowledge.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - Money, Master The Game by Tony Robbins</image:title>
<image:caption>After reading “Unshakeable” first, which was essentially the abbreviated version of this monster book, I was hooked on learning more about financial freedom. I’ve always loved Tony’s performance mindsets, but this text isn’t about Tony, it’s about him reaching out to the world’s greatest investing minds and gaining their wisdom. I can’t think of a more important and accessible financial book than this, it should be a required reading in high school. I can’t imagine where I would be if I had been exposed to it at an early age.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Stephen’s communication principles have always stayed with me: “listening to understand, and then to be understood” and the “Emotional bank account” are such concepts which I’ve fully integrated into my social skillset. I found this text when I was just beginning to bring on a few assistants/coaches for The Bowl, and it was instrumental in guiding me to guide them. The story of the Indian chiefs at a meeting, passing the “talking stick” is a lesson that I’ll never forget.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - Elephants & The Business Laws of Nature by John Vamos</image:title>
<image:caption>What a sleeping beast this text is! I found it laying around the house one day, and decided to flick through a couple pages. I was expecting business jargon, but I found evolutionary psychology gold. Mr. Vamos found a sweet spot between the science of the mind, and how it applies to our everyday choices in business. I feverishly devoured this book and to this day still use the analogy of the “man riding the elephant” with clients.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari</image:title>
<image:caption>The list of books that have made me want to clear my entire schedule just to read them is a short one, Sapiens is at the top of that list. I found this to be a one of a kind explanation of our human existence and it’s history. I was addicted to this book while reading it and couldn’t shut up about it with my friends. Everyone I’ve referred this to has also been hit by the same drug. I’ve often wondered about “how did we get to where we are?”, and Mr. Harari did a stellar job of unpacking such a mammoth question. I’ve since read the follow up “Homo Deus”, which didn’t have the same impact, but was interesting nonetheless.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - Authentic Happiness by Martin Seligman</image:title>
<image:caption>For a while, I was extremely interested in understanding what makes as humans, happy. Martin Seligman’s is if not the most thorough, for sure equal first, when it comes to explaining this concept of happiness. I found his dive into money’s relationship with our happiness particularly fascinating.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - The One Thing by Gary Keller</image:title>
<image:caption>I found myself torn between two perspectives in this book. I agree with all the principles Gary discusses, and more than that, found them to be extremely enlightening to my own life. The part of disagreement for me personally, is that I know where this obsession with one thing can lead to, an unbalanced temple, in which other areas of your temple fall to ruin because of your lack of balance, or “counter-balance” as Gary would put it. My personality is naturally geared to “the one thing” mentality, and I’ve often taken it too far in the past and paid for it, which is why I had to re-learn social dynamics from scratch at 17…</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - The Bhagavad Gita by Eknath Easwaran</image:title>
<image:caption>The concept of “action for action-sake, and not the fruit” was first introduced to me in the Gita. The first few times I listened to it on audiobook, I didn’t really get it. The story can be hard to follow at times, so It took some time before the deeper lessons started to seep in. However, when I started applying the lessons in real life, I saw the true depth of what was passed down through the Gita, and why it had stood the test of time. I still regard this as a foundational text, and one I will likely have a few more go-arounds before my time is up in this life.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill</image:title>
<image:caption>As I discussed in “The Law of Success” by Mr. Hill, I feel like this was an abbreviation of his work, but powerful nonetheless. In particular, his telling of the “gold digger” story really struck lightning within my core. It taught me never to give up.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - The Book of Joy by The Dalai Lama</image:title>
<image:caption>There’s so many diamonds to be found within this text, I could spend all day talking about what I derived from it. So let me say this, 1. To read about the contrast of a Buddhist, and a Christian, communicating ideas in harmony was extremely powerful for my developing mind. 2. Compassion was never on the forefront of my mind prior to reading this, now it’s a giant pillar in my temple. I walk the earth every day with this as a priority after hearing these two leaders speak so passionately on it.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - King, Warrior, Magician, Lover: Rediscovering the Archetypes of the Mature Masculine by Robert L. Moore, Douglas Gillette</image:title>
<image:caption>The concept of archetypes is something that interests me greatly. It fascinates me that no matter what era you look at, there are these common patterns/stages of development amongst all human beings. I particularly found myself entranced by the authors' discussion on the evolution from boy to man psychology, including the spiritual leaders/rituals that are required to make said evolution. As soon as I was done reading, I sat down for a podcast in a Melbourne AirBnB and discussed my thoughts on this evolution in much greater detail: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-yo1Sjqlw0</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - Hagakure by Yamamoto Tsunetomo</image:title>
<image:caption>An enlightening documentation of samurai life and the wisdom derived from it. There are some things in this book that make no sense at all, some things that will make you reflect on the current state of society vs 1800’s, and some things that will have you spending a whole day on reflection. There’s one unusual quote from this text that stays with me always: ”If it were not for men who demonstrate valour on the tatami, one could not find them on the battlefield either.” ^ It’s a very unusual painting of a truth that I’ve found throughout many other books from authors such as Musashi, Seung Sahn, Lao Tzu etc…</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - Meditations by Marcus Aurelius</image:title>
<image:caption>I’m not sure if I spent more time in reflection on Aurelius’s actual teachings, or more on the mind blowing relevance it had to me in this day. It’s the old world wisdom which stands the test of time that draws me in the most, and this read has it in spades. I hadn’t read a ton of stoic philosophy prior to Meditations, and I believe it was a friend (shoutout to Stefan who a part of the original “Bowl” in Melbourne back in 2016) that encouraged me to read this, since then I’ve heard Tim Ferriss sing the praises of stoicism and I’ve been happy to learn from it.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - On the Shortness of Life by Seneca</image:title>
<image:caption>As the title alludes to, a short read, but not to be taken lightly. I re-read several sections of this over many days, really attempting to fully internalise what Seneca’s ideas of life meant to me. In particular, his saying of “It’s not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it.” forced me to take a break from society for a few days, just to recalibrate how I was using my time.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - Emotional Intelligence By Daniel Goleman</image:title>
<image:caption>I had always heard the term “EQ” thrown around in the business world, but never looked into the literature on it. Upon opening this book I knew I had found a gem. Daniel’s dive into understanding your emotions as they arise, and how the brain’s facilities interact to cause emotional reactions was fundamental in my understanding of humans.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - Ask Gary Vee by Gary Vaynerchuk</image:title>
<image:caption>A straight up guide to conducting yourself in the current state of business. I listened to this on audio, and treated it as a conversation with Gary himself. I’ve always thought of Gary as a mentor of mine (who I’ve never met). I probably know his ethos as well as he does at this point; due to the countless hours of content I’ve consumed. There’s not a soul on this planet that I resonate more strongly with when it comes to business mindset. When I first began The Bowl I had choices to make on whether to walk the beaten path by industry leaders in the dating world, or do the opposite and follow my own path… I made my choice and I’ve never looked back.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - Mastery by Robert Greene</image:title>
<image:caption>Another book that was handed down to me by my mentor Paul at 18 years old. I remember sitting in the Personal Training office between training clients and reading this. I remember taking furious notes, and often times just sitting back in silence, contemplating how early I was in my journey, how much work I had in front of me, and how exciting it was to know I had time to build my temple out. It’s been many years since I revisited it, yet the fundamental principle of effort over time stays with me to this day. On a side note: I had an insanely interesting conversation with Dalexis P, from Mindful Afftraction 2.0 on my podcast, and he is someone who’s been heavily influenced by Mastery, and many other Robert Greene works, you can check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hYEZcv3ZMA&t=4671s</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - The Virgin Way by Richard Branson</image:title>
<image:caption>If there was ever a story of someone winning at all costs, it’s Richard Branson’s. I listened to this on audio, and believe it was more powerful that way getting to hear his actual voice. It really gave me the sense that if this guy could do it, so could I. I’ve often retold the story of how he got Virgin Airlines off the ground (literally, as a stranded guest on an island), by hiring a plane and getting all the other passengers to chip in. It’s always instilled me with the faith that no matter what, If I am willing, I will find a way.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - The Ultramind Solution by Dr. Mark Hyman</image:title>
<image:caption>I never knew the degree to which the food we ate affected our brain chemistry. I had always been “healthy food conscious” in terms of not eating junk all the time, but my dive into the world of mind-food connection really began with Dr. Hyman’s work. Forewarning, this read is science heavy, but it’s all tied into client case studies of Dr. Hyman’s, so you’ll feel the real world application screaming at you the entire time. I liken this work to the food version of the matrix, once you read, you can never unread.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - Total Recall by Arnold Schwarzenneger</image:title>
<image:caption>In a similar way to Sapiens, I craved this book when I wasn’t in front of it. It was just that well written (save the politics section which gets a little long winded). I walked away from this read inspired with the determination that anyone can succeed. First off, it’s such an incredible story from an entertainment perspective, but it’s the constant failures that you don’t hear about, and what Arnold had to overcome to get to where he is today, that’s what I learnt from the most. The veil of fame and success does a tremendous job of masking the work that it took to get there, this book lifts that veil in a way that I’m so grateful for.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - DMT The Spirit Molecule by Dr. Rick Strassman</image:title>
<image:caption>After listening to Joe Rogan discuss his experiences with DMT, I decided to look into the book he constantly referred to. I’ve never personally experienced any form of psychedelic drug, but after reading this book, I was hooked on finding out more. Mind exploration is key to me as a foundation, so when the opportunity presents itself, I’m sure I will have my dance with this spirit molecule. An interesting thing about this book is how digestible it is. You’d think due to the topic’s esoteric nature, that a psychedelic noob such as myself might have to fight to keep up, but no, Strassman did an incredible job making it relatable to the layman. I even remember having a conversation with one of my Mother’s former partners over a Thai dinner in North Adelaide one evening (shoutout to Amarin Thai, their coconut rice & garlic prawns are some of the best I’ve ever had), and he was saying how he’d just begun listening to this book on audio, and he was the last person I’d think would be interested in learning about the power of psychedelics.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - Black Box Thinking by Matthew Syed</image:title>
<image:caption>I was disgusted and amazed at the same time by this book. Some of the case studies i.e. surgeons, and the cognitive biases they donned which lead to lost lives, just blew me away. The case studies around pilots were just as terrifying, I remember running around like a loose goose telling people about how flawed the human psyche was after this. Now, I always hold the possibility that I could be wrong, no matter how right I think I am. It’s like an insurance policy against my own stupidity, which has helped me to save face more than once. Side note: I never really knew how “blood letting” became a thing in early medical history. It seems so ridiculous now to think that taking blood OUT of someone would somehow cure them, now I know why and how this came to be. Thank you Matthew Syed.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - Tools of Titans by Tim Ferriss</image:title>
<image:caption>In truth, I was more influenced by Tim’s body of work that went into this book, than the actual wisdom laid out within it. I was inspired by Tim’s work ethic and the process to getting it done. That said, the book itself does contain an incredible archive of wisdom in an easily digestible manner. I have since adopted the practice of immersive focus by selecting large blocks of time to work on one big project. I documented my process while creating the video “The Greatest Lesson from 25 Years of Life”, on my Instagram story @ooitang1, in which I spent an accumulated 55+ hours editing over the course of a month and a bit. It was because of hearing how Tim put this archive of wisdom together, that inspired me to re-think about how I go about bringing my own feature content to light.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - The Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson</image:title>
<image:caption>Mark’s conversation with Joe Rogan first lead me to the Ketogenic diet, and Mark’s overall health principles. I found this guide extremely helpful in organising my way around how a human being should build his physical temple. While I no longer subscribe to the “Keto Diet” (leaving it behind half way through 2018), I still hold many of Sisson’s daily life principles in mind. I was never a big '“walker” before reading this, now I routinely hit 2x 50min walks in nature at least 5 days a week. It was initially a small change to my daily routine, but years on, I can now see how it’s had a MASSIVE impact on my daily life productivity.</image:caption>

<image:title>RESOURCES OF WISDOM - The Clever Guts Diet by Dr. Michael Mosley</image:title>
<image:caption>Despite how short this read is, it has some of the most powerful information re: gut health that I’ve ever read. Easy to digest (no pun intended) and I still reference it when others ask about digestive health in relation to our minds. I knew about the gut microbiome prior to reading this (thanks to Dr. Mark Hyman’s work), but this further expanded upon that awareness and helped me to include far more fermented foods in my nutrition i.e. Kombucha, Sauerkraut and Coconut yoghurt.</image:caption>

<image:caption>While I don’t agree with everything in this book (specifically around Gundry’s aversion to red meat), I found his research into how plants’ natural defences can cause havoc with our digestion. Many a time I found myself going “Oh shit, I didn’t know!” while reading through this, and if anything, it certainly made me FAR more aware of my relationship with plants. Side note: Try the mug cake recipe, I do a cacao version and it’s BOMB.</image:caption>
